About Us

Robert D. Long, DDS
Dr. Long has been practicing dentistry on the southeast corner of College Boulevard and Nall Avenue since he graduated from the University of  Missouri – Kansas City Dental School in 1983.  Prior to dental school, Dr. Long earned his BS in Biology from Pittsburg State University in1978. Having grown up in the area, he is a 1974 graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School.

He and his wife, Sara Jo, have been married since 1981 and have two wonderful children. Lyndsey is a University of Kansas graduate, and Danny is a Kansas State University graduate.

When he’s not practicing dentistry, Dr. Long enjoys fishing, sailing, bicycling, and watching sports, especially Pitt State Gorilla Football.

Dr. Long is a member of the American Dental Association, the Kansas Dental Association, the 5th District Dental Society Study Group and the Academy of Laser Dentistry.

Dr. Long is an avid believer in providing his patients with the latest in technology and treatment, so he continues his education every year by attending numerous lectures and hands-on training by some of the leading clinicians in the country.

Trudy – Office Manager & Financial Coordinator
I have been with Dr. Long since 1995.  I moved, with my husband and two daughters, to Overland Park from Des Moines, Iowa, where for 9 years I was Director of Religious Education for two Catholic parishes and their school. I took my religious studies from Creighton University, Omaha, NE.

I am here to help our patients with their needs regarding insurance, scheduling appointments, treatment plans, and financial matters. I am also available to help in any other way I can to ensure our patients’ comfort and care.

In my time away from the office I am an avid reader of novels. But my husband, Ray, and I most enjoy anything that involves our four grandchildren.

I am a firm believer in Dr. Long’s vision for his practice and his patients’ health and well-being, and enjoy being a part of his team and helping him accomplish that vision.

Helle – Receptionist
As I grew up in Denmark I would never have guessed I would end up going to work for Dr. Long in 2003. I started my career in the para-medical field in Denmark and continued in the United States by getting my degree in Medical Records.

I postponed my career while raising my family, which is the primary love of my life. I am very proud of our son and daughter and am ecstatic over the two sons each have.  I feel very fortunate to have our four grandsons here in the Kansas City area. Another love is travel. My Danish heritage requires a periodic “Ocean Fix”.

After our children grew up, I spent 10 years as an optical technician in the office next door.  My short move to begin work for Dr. Long has proved to be a real blessing.

My duties include being the first and last contact for our patients’ appointments, helping them with scheduling, and assisting with insurance and account information.

As a group, this dental team has been like an extended family. I love the interaction with our patients and have had the pleasure of getting to know and enjoy many of them as friends.

Tish – Receptionist
TishI began working for Dr. Long in October 2015. My previous job experience included working for a local Optometrist for four years. Prior to that, I was a full-time mom/homemaker for over 20 years raising my three children. I moved from Chicago to Overland Park in 1984. My daughter Sarah and her husband live in Overland Park and have blessed me with two adorable grandchildren. My son Christopher is an engineer and lives in Houston, TX, and daughter Katie is studying elementary education. In my spare time I enjoy reading (for my book club as well as for pleasure), traveling, playing tennis and golf and supporting our local professional and collegiate sports teams. I also spend as much time as possible with the aforementioned adorable grandchildren! Even though I’m the “newbie” in Dr. Long’s office, I feel like I’ve become a part of the family and I look forward to learning more about the practice and our patients. After being a patient here myself for many years and knowing what a pleasant work environment I was becoming a part of, I’m happy to now help our patients with scheduling, checkout, insurance information and anything else that arises.

Shannon – Dental Assistant
I have been working chair side with Dr. Long since 2000. I attended Kansas City College of Medical and Dental Careers. I have seen and experienced many changes in the dental industry in the last 25 years. I find it exciting and interesting to work with the technology that Dr. Long uses in his practice.

When I am not at work I am kept busy running after my five young grandsons – the oldest of which is four years older than the youngest one!

Jackie – Registered Dental Hygienist
I graduated from Johnson County Community College in 1992.  Soon after, I became a member of Dr. Long’s dental team. I, along with Dr. Long, have always made our patients’ dental health a priority. I especially like working to restore the health of patients with periodontal disease and providing patient education. I love having the opportunity to use the latest in technology and equipment that makes dentistry so exciting.

In my spare time I enjoy working outdoors with my flowers and love anything to do with quilting.

Sharon – Registered Dental Hygienist
I became a member of Dr. Long’s dental team in 2007.  I graduated from UMKC Dental Hygiene School in 1967 and have loved every minute of my career in the hygiene profession. I have served as President of UMKC Hygiene Alumni Association and also as Secretary of the Kansas Dental Hygiene Association.

I look forward to any time I can spend with my five grandchildren. I enjoy traveling the United States with my husband Tom to visit friends and see the wonders that make up our beautiful country.
